In 1905, the town of Menton decided to build its municipal museum. The building, designed by architect Adrien Rey, opened in 1909. However, as early as 1878, the commune already had a museum, housed in the town hall.

The museum was the brainchild of Stanislas Bonfils, a self-taught naturalist and archaeologist. The first floor is dedicated to the presentation of regional prehistoric collections, highlighting how human populations have dealt with contemporary issues such as climate change and biodiversity. The museum also features a permanent exhibition on Mediterranean shipwreck treasures, presenting archaeological remains from underwater excavations. Temporary exhibitions are organized annually. "The museum is located in Menton, and is open every day except Tuesdays, with entrance fees varying according to visitor category.

Free admission for children under 18 and for all visitors on the 1st Sunday of the month (other free admission holders: information on 00 33 4 93 35 84 64).
