The mountains have to be earned... and enjoyed!

And yet the mountains are so beautiful… and even more so when you take the time to explore them. And how do you do that? Hiking! On RivierALP, activate your nature mode during a sporting break between France and Italy. And yes, the trails will take you from one country to the other in just a few metres! If you need to see it to believe it, put on your hiking boots, hop on your bike and grab your rucksack – we’ll take you to the top of the world!

Everyone on track! Hiking in the Alps: itineraries for all levels!

Discover the taste of effort metre after metre, admire the scenery as you gain altitude, take the whole family on a new adventure… That’s the spirit of leisure hiking at RivierALP! And don’t forget to immerse yourself in the great outdoors, without the hassle of climbing too much or taking too long. Off you go!

Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced hiker, you’ll love our walks in the Alps . Far from being a massive exercise, these itineraries will sometimes push you to your limits, with a distance of varying length and a gradient of varying steepness.

On the programme: an obligatory passage through the Alpine forests and their breathtaking scenery (a bit like your hike!), the discovery of the Roya Valley and the Bévéra Valley, in the heart of the Mercantour National Park, or the Ligurian Alps. Follow the guide!

Leaving with a clear head A structured route for hiking in complete freedom

If for you, hiking also (and above all) means safety, rest assured! The 9 routes and 30 stages of the different itineraries are fully signposted in the heart of the Alps. Have you bitten off more than you can chew? Don’t write off your trip! There are variants to the different routes, depending on your level or your mood at the time. There’s always a choice at RivierALP!

Mountain hiking at RivierALP, whether on foot or by bike, is not just about calves and gradients. It’s also an invitation to look up from the footpath and immerse yourself in the life of the villages you pass through. Saorge and its perched lanes, La Brigue and its chapels adorned with medieval frescoes, Dolceacqua dominated by its Genoese castle… Each stage tells a (very) special story.

Along the way, you’ll meet some of the faces that have brought this region to life for generations: the craftsman who works Brigue sheep’s wool, the ceramist or glassblower, the local producer who offers you local produce. These encounters add another dimension to your mountain hike, and you’ll always leave feeling a little different.

On your route

A playground to explore step by step Cross-border hiking, between France and Italy

On RivierALP, hiking takes you through an exceptional area where the landscapes change with each stage. From the mineral relief of the Mercantour National Park to the gentler atmosphere of the Parco naturale delle Alpi Liguri, the paths alternate between panoramic ridges, deep forests and open mountain pastures, always with that special atmosphere between the mountains and the Mediterranean.

But what also makes the experience unique is the transition from one country to another. In just a few steps, you cross the border and the atmosphere changes: the Mediterranean light, the evolution of the villages, the mix of influences. Saorge, La Brigue, then Dolceacqua or Triora punctuate the route and tell the story of this dual culture between the Alps and Liguria.

To make the experience even richer, you can be accompanied by a professional: take a heritage tour of the villages, discover the chapels or immerse yourself in the local flora and fauna with a nature guide. It’s the perfect way to add even more meaning to your walk, by going beyond the landscape to really get to grips with the area!

Mountain hiking on RivierALP: ready to take the plunge?

You’ve walked the trails in your imagination, now it’s time to walk them for real. Whether you’re aiming for a weekend in discovery mode or a complete crossing between Piedmont and the Mediterranean, the mountain walks on RivierALP adapt to your ambitions, and often exceed them!

Keep an eye on the weather, pack your bag carefully, and let the itinerary do the rest. The 432 kilometres of signposted trails, the high mountain panoramas, the Franco-Italian villages and the scents of the garrigue will be there to greet you at every stage. The only question left is where to start.
