Itinerary Col de Tende to Menton A cross-border journey between Italy, France and the Côte d'Azur
From the Italian Piedmont to the beaches of Menton, this cycle route links the Maritime Alps to the Mediterranean via more than 120 kilometres of military trails, hilltop...

One step in France, the other in Italy A change of air at the border

Nature knows no boundaries! Even less so in the Alps. A walk on RivierALP will take you from one country to another in a single stride. In fact, it’s the only cross-border itinerary in the Mediterranean Alps. It starts in the lower Piedmont region, passing through Liguria, before crossing the Roya and Bévéra valleys and finishing in Menton. The border between France and Italy can simply be crossed from one side to the other without you even realising it.

Well, almost… A few signs change, as do the sounds. And your coffee won’t taste quite the same (a good point for Italy!) As you go along, the influences blend naturally, and the atmosphere evolves as you pass through the villages. A nuance in the recipe, the architecture that changes, the language that slips into the accent… An experience as physical as it is mental on thisunique route!

On your route

More beautiful than life itself

Climbing from one valley to the next, keeping your eyes (and good eyes!) peeled for a tichodrome échelette*, spotting a piece of brigasque ewe’s horn: nature sticks to your skin on RivierALP. Meter after meter, the itinerary reveals it to be wilder than ever, and this, in all seasons for those lucky enough to (re)come!

In your sights: the ridges of the Vermenagna valley in the Italian Piedmont, the highest peaks in the Mercantour National Park (Mont Bégo), the Col de Tende, the Peïrefique lakes, a breathtaking view of the Roya below, or the emerald gorges of the Bévéra valley…

It’s enough to make you forget the distance and the difference in altitude in one of Europe’s most beautiful natural settings! In terms of atmosphere, the hikes take place in complete tranquillity on paths usually used by shepherds and their flocks, or on exceptional routes such as the coastal path of Cap Martin. Cycling, on the other hand, gives you a whole new perspective on the countryside. So what are you waiting for?
