Description
Nestled in the heart of Menton's old town, the Basilique Saint-Michel Archange is a jewel of Baroque architecture. Built in 1619 at the instigation of Prince Honoré II of Monaco, it was consecrated in 1675.
Its imposing ochre façade and slender bell tower bear witness to the Italian influence on the region. Inside, visitors can admire a sumptuous décor: frescoes, gilding, marble and a majestic high altar.
Listed as a historic monument, the basilica is an emblematic landmark of the town, not least thanks to the Festival de Musique de Menton held here every summer. Overlooking the Mediterranean, it offers an exceptional panorama of the bay, adding to its timeless charm. A must for lovers of history, architecture and music.
