Description
In 1957 and 1958, Jean Cocteau decorated the wedding hall. These were the settings for Orphée et Eurydice, the barbarian wedding and the bride and groom. The artist's symbolic language unfolds in all its splendor.
Located in Menton Town Hall, the Salle des Mariages, decorated by Jean Cocteau between 1957 and 1958, is a veritable artistic gem. This venue, where civil unions are celebrated, is distinguished by its dreamlike, symbolic atmosphere. Cocteau displayed his talent here in striking murals inspired by mythology and love, featuring stylized, poetic figures.
Every detail has been carefully considered by the artist, from furniture to draperies, to create a total work of art in dialogue with architecture. This unique setting, both intimate and theatrical, makes the Salle des Mariages an emblematic part of Menton's heritage.
