CAMMINO - DA BAJARDO A SANREMO

Bajardo

Description

Facing south from Baiardo (altitude 851 m), we follow the path called “the variant,” then take a trail that leads us to the pass at the “Termini di Baiardo” (altitude 925 m), before descending quickly to the hamlet of S. Romolo (altitude 777 m). By now, the coastline and the Gulf of Sanremo are in sight. We skirt the cave-church that once hosted the hermit bishop and patron saint of the city, and begin descending the ancient mule track (now partially paved), which once connected the urban area to the wooded slopes of Mount Bignone. The path crosses several times the newer paved road connecting the hamlet, offering exceptional views. Finally, we arrive at the magnificent Baroque Sanctuary of the Madonna della Costa (altitude 100 m) and at La Pigna, the historic heart of Sanremo.
